Sweet

This is the week of unusual cakes!
First, Christian and I made a cake for his friend, Landon. Christian did more of the coming up with the idea and what it should look like and I did more of the making of the cake. (For those of you Ace of Cakes fans....he would be Duff , I would be Geoff..got it?!) I only had a few hours to do this and was very distracted the whole time...stopped to do Christian and Landry's hair (Dont worry, I washed my hands!!Geez!) Its not the camera..it is hot pink.

...played with Major...

But finally, we(I) finished it! It is loosely based on a Special Edition Jones soda can that comes out around Halloween and is candy corn flavor..yuck!! It is one of those small cans and needed to be hiding in the grass. It is an inside joke between the boys and a long story, I will spare you the details and it is ok if you just think it is weird! And I say loosely based because I just didnt have enough time (or an actual can)  to make it exact. Christian just said "As long as Landon can tell what it is, then I will be happy" Landon laughed when he saw it, so I think he knew what it was! Success.
Here is the stats...chocolate cake with buttercream inside and Chocolate fondant covered.

Next cake was for our good friend Richie's 30th birthday. A few months ago, Richie asked me if I could make him a sushi cake for his birthday. I told him I would give it a try, having never done anything like before! This is what I came up with..
California rolls

All completely edible except the chop sticks. The cake (and little rolls) are red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and fondant.
This was my first experience with painting fondant and I really like the look of it (the wood plank and used it a little on the "crab meat"). It involves mixing the gel colors with vodka(because it evaporates quickly) and then just painting it. . It looks like something has gone terribly wrong when someone walks in and I have a big bottle of vodka next to me while working on a cake though! Thankfully, I have no desire to drink rubbing alcohol vodka.
SO after all of those were delivered, and I had not eaten any cake....I was really craving something sweet. I was anxious to try a recipe that I had found for Donut Cupcakes! So, Trinity and I made them this morning during our "girl time" ♥

They taste more like a muffin since I didnt put the frosting on them (for fear I would go into sugar overload and Trinity would not be able to save me!) but they were seriously the yummiest thing ever! They have apple pie filling on the inside and a cinnamon sugar topping with caramel sauce. OMGsh....heaven. I had to eat just one so that I wont have to live at the gym this week. WHY God, why....why cant cupcakes be good for us!!!!

In other sweet news...Major's little sister Lille (pronounced like lily) was born on Tuesday! She is perfect and adorable and more importantly...she loves me, she said so

  1. Well, Mrs. Sherri Bray..you are a remarkable woman..you can do it all...hair, cakes, you name it..the Jones Soda cake looks exactly like the can, that Landon still owns by the way, and it tastes wonderful..it brought a huge smile to all of our faces as we all knew exactly what it stood for..so thank you so very much for making Landons 17th bday a little bit sweeter for all of us..and for letting us have Christian over..both he and the cake were very much enjoyed!!! almost forgot..thanks to Christian too for the great cake idea..Landon is fortunate to have you in his life!!
