He is Driving!!!! This is the scariest thing for me. And not because he is a bad driver! He is actually very cautious and always watches his speed (give him a few months!). If he could drive around with no other cars on the road it would be fine, or maybe if we could wrap the car in bubble wrap..a lot of it. I am trying to let go, it is just soooo difficult and scary! For me, this is the hardest stage in the kids lives. We try to pour everything we can into them for so long and keep them from harm; and then at some point you have to let go a little and let them start to learn to fly on their own. And you know they are going to find their way, but you know that they have to find it THEIR WAY. And you know that they have to fail a few times and that there are bumps and bruises a long that way. But oh, if we could only protect them forever! If he could just stay that cute little curly headed, blue eyed boy that held my hand to cross the street!
I am so thankful for Christian. He and I have always been close...in some ways we grew up together. He has always stayed close to me and I have never minded. People always ask me, "What is it like to have a teenager?!". And I guess it is just not as horrifying as some parents make it out to be! Sure, his room is a mess and he plays his music loud and eats a lot. But that is easily overshadowed by the joy that he brings to our house. He is the funniest kid I have ever met and he is always doing things to make me laugh! We share similar tastes in music and can go to shows together. We have always enjoyed his friends (and now girlfriend) and love that he lets us be part of their lives. For his birthday this year, he asked that he and Landry go on a double date with Michael and I to get pedicures(!!) and eat sushi. People were shocked that he would choose that, but not me, that's just Christian. This Saturday was yard work day, a dreaded day! But halfway through the day, Christian came in and told me that he made me something and I should go stand on the playplace to see it. This is what I saw...
Man, I love that kid. Here is to another great year!

Well, I'm not as good with my words as my wife is...but, I have to agree with her. Christian is a great son, great older brother and our family wouldnt be what it is without him! I have to say, the driving thing has been even tougher for me...lets just say I like to be in control. And sitting in the passenger seat does not fall into the control category. But, when I do relinquish control...he does an amazing job! I love that boy and could not be prouder! Dad
